The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is the European directive requiring companies to report sustainability information following ESRS standards. It replaces the old NFRD and expands the number of companies in scope, the data to report and the level of assurance required.

Large companies with more than 250 employees, listed companies (except micro-enterprises), European subsidiaries of non-EU groups exceeding certain thresholds and, progressively, listed SMEs. The timeline depends on company size and type.

The European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) are the technical standards defining what data must be reported under the CSRD. They cover 834 datapoints grouped into environmental (E), social (S) and governance (G) topics. Not all apply to every company: it depends on the double materiality assessment.
