We know that the quality of your carbon footprint calculations depends directly on the methodology and emission factors behind them. That’s why we’ve rebuilt from the ground up how Dcycle calculates combustion and electricity emissions: results are now more accurate, you can choose between several official databases, and you can see with full traceability how each number is reached.
What improves with the new methodology
- Combustion (Scope 1): we apply the factors with all the decimals published by official sources, and you can choose between MITECO, GHG Protocol, DEFRA, and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency).
- Recharges (Scope 1): the results remain the same, but the detailed breakdown of the emissions calculation is now available. We’ve also expanded the catalog of refrigerants and AR5 emission factors available.
- Electricity (Scope 2): for the first time, we separate the market-based and location-based approaches, as required by the GHG Protocol. We include sources such as MITECO, AIB (Association of Issuing Bodies), IEA (International Energy Agency), REE (Red Eléctrica Española), Ecoinvent, DEFRA, and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), and you can reclassify invoices with Guarantees of Origin as Renewable Energy.
- Electricity (Scope 3, Category 3): we account for both upstream emissions and transmission and distribution losses, allocating them by country according to the IEA.
What this means for you
- Everything you upload from now on is automatically calculated with the new methodology.
- We’ve already recalculated your 2026 data that was previously uploaded, unless you’ve told us otherwise.
- You’ll be able to see the detailed calculation of both the impact of consumption and the energy, where applicable. We recommend recalculating even if the numbers change only slightly: you’ll gain flexibility to choose databases, audit-ready results, and full traceability of the calculation.
If you need to recalculate a period prior to 2026 with the new methodology, or apply the recalculation from a specific date, please contact your Customer Success representative or the Support team. We’re happy to help.
