What the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation means for international teams

One regulation. Every package. One session to get ready.

The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) replaces the 1994 directive with a much stricter regime. By 2030, every package placed on the EU market must be recyclable, lighter and contain a minimum share of recycled content. Single-use formats are restricted, reusable targets are binding, and reporting obligations cascade through the entire value chain.

If your company sells into Europe, PPWR applies whether you manufacture in the EU or not. The challenge is no longer understanding what PPWR says. It is structuring your packaging data so you can prove compliance, year after year, across markets and product categories.

What you will learn

Carlos Valverde at Dcycle will show you, with real company data, how to turn PPWR into a manageable workflow for global teams.

  • PPWR essentials: what changes, who is in scope, and the timeline of obligations between 2026 and 2030
  • Mandatory recycled content for plastic packaging: how to track it across SKUs, suppliers and regions
  • Recyclability grades and design-for-recycling: how to assess your portfolio and prioritise redesign work
  • EPR and DRS interactions: how PPWR meets national producer responsibility schemes across member states
  • Data and reporting: how to structure packaging data once and reuse it for PPWR, CSRD, EUDR and customer questionnaires

Who is it for

  • Sustainability and packaging managers preparing for the 2030 PPWR milestones
  • Operations and supply chain directors redesigning packaging across categories and markets
  • Compliance and legal teams mapping PPWR against EPR, DRS and national rules
  • CFOs and finance teams quantifying the cost of non-compliance and the ROI of redesign
  • Any company placing packaged goods on the EU market, regardless of where it is headquartered

Agenda

  • PPWR overview: scope, timeline and what changes versus the 1994 directive
  • Design and material rules: recyclability, recycled content and minimization
  • Reuse and refill targets: which sectors are affected and when
  • Data and reporting: building one packaging dataset for PPWR, CSRD and EPR
  • Live demo: how Dcycle structures packaging data for international companies
