Assign tasks to multiple people with flexible completion modes

Teams can now assign a task to several people and choose whether it counts as done once one person finishes it or only once everyone has completed their part.

Assign a task to more than one person

Tasks used to support only one assignee. Now you can add several people to the same task, and as soon as you do, you choose how it gets completed.

  • Anyone can complete this: the task is marked done as soon as one person finishes it, the same behavior as before for single-assignee tasks.
  • Everyone must complete this: each person marks their own part, and progress such as 1 of 5 done is visible both in the task detail and on the summary card, with a checkmark next to each person.

There is no default mode. As soon as a second person is added to a task, you have to explicitly choose how it should be completed.

Details that make it reliable

Only organization members can be assigned to a task, so assigning a pending invite is no longer possible. Assignment emails now go to every assignee, and only newly added people are notified when a task is edited.

The bulk-completion assistant also understands the new modes. If someone’s part is still pending on an everyone-must-complete task, it now reports that as awaiting others instead of marking the whole task done.
