CDP questionnaire: your climate answers built on an inventory you can audit

The CDP climate questions ask for emissions by scope, the comparison with last year, your verification status and how you work with suppliers. Dcycle calculates that inventory from your invoices, keeps the source document behind every figure, and our team reviews the response with you before you submit it in the CDP portal.

  • Scope 1, 2 and 3 under the GHG Protocol
  • Every figure linked to its source invoice
  • Year-on-year comparison
  • Dcycle experts on your side

What you are asked for

Who asks you for CDP and where the response gets stuck

The questionnaire is filled in on the CDP portal. What takes weeks is not writing the answers: it is gathering and justifying the data behind them.

A customer (CDP Supply Chain) Answer the climate module with Scope 1 and 2 and the relevant Scope 3 categories. Consumption sits in invoices spread across sites and nobody has the full-year total. Leia reads the invoices of every facility and the project dashboard gives you Scope 1, 2 and 3.
Investors This year’s and base-year emissions, and why they changed (questions 7.5 to 7.10). Last year was calculated in another spreadsheet with another boundary, and the figures do not match. Comparison with the previous year by scope and by category, on the same boundary.
Verifier (question 7.9) Trace every inventory figure back to its source document. Data copied by hand that nobody can justify months later. Every consumption entry linked to its PDF, and a data pre-audit with a downloadable report.
CDP: value chain Which suppliers you have engaged and what data they gave you. Loose emails and spreadsheets, with no idea who has replied. You send the questionnaire to your suppliers from Dcycle and see who is pending and who has responded.
Leadership (sign-off, module 13) Review and approve the response before it goes out. The draft arrives in the last week, with no time to review it. A GHG report with validated sections, comments and versions, reviewed with the Dcycle team.

The data your CDP response needs, ready before the portal opens

Invoice reading

Upload the invoice and Leia pulls out the consumption

Drag in the electricity, gas, fuel or water PDFs of each facility and Leia extracts the period, quantity and amount. Each invoice shows its confidence level field by field, and the PDF is stored as evidence next to the figure you will use in the climate module.

  • Per-field confidence: supplier, dates, amount and invoice ID
  • The original PDF linked to each consumption entry
  • Tabs for combustion, electricity, processes, water and waste

Suppliers

Ask your suppliers for data and know who has replied

CDP asks how you work with your value chain. From the project you send the questionnaire to your suppliers, they answer it in the Dcycle supplier portal, and each card shows you whether it is not sent, pending, responded or expired.

  • Import your supplier list and send to everyone missing in one click
  • Status filters with a count for each
  • Date sent and contact for every supplier

Control and pre-audit

You know what is missing before your verifier tells you

The Control tab sums up how many data points are processed, pending review or still processing, and shows month by month which facility has uploaded its consumption and which has not. One click runs a pre-audit of the project data and you download the report.

  • Monthly coverage per facility and per group company
  • Data pending review, one click away from being fixed
  • Data pre-audit with a downloadable report

What CDP is

CDP in figures

CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) is the most widely used environmental disclosure system in the world. It is voluntary, but when a customer or investor asks, not answering is a commercial decision.

  • 24,800+

    companies disclosed in 2025

They represent more than two thirds of global market capitalisation.

  • $130tn

in assets held by requesting investors

Signatory investors request disclosure from listed companies through CDP.

  • D- to A

    public scoring scale

Four bands: Disclosure, Awareness, Management and Leadership.

The three ways CDP reaches you

Investor request

For listed companies: CDP sends the request on behalf of signatory investors.

CDP Supply Chain

A customer in the programme asks you to respond. This is how most industrial, food and consumer goods suppliers meet CDP for the first time.

Self-selected response

Any organisation can respond without being asked, to get a public score.

What each module asks and where the data comes from

Since 2024 climate, water and forests sit in a single modular questionnaire. Only the modules that apply to you are activated, and CDP cross-checks figures between modules.

Scoring

How CDP scores

The score mostly measures how you manage, evidence and disclose your data, not only how much you emit. Each band requires everything in the one below, and more.

D / D-: Disclosure

You respond, but without showing management. Many buyers treat a D as almost the same as not responding.

C / C-: Awareness

Complete Scope 1 and 2 with primary data, a first Scope 3 screening and a basic risk assessment.

B / B-: Management

Scope 3 for material categories, verified Scope 1 and 2, targets with a base year and board oversight.

A / A-: Leadership

SBTi-validated targets, a transition plan with allocated capex, scenario analysis and measurable supplier results.

SMEs: an A is now possible

From the 2026 cycle an SME can reach A on climate. Until 2025 the ceiling was B.

What moves the score most

Verifying the inventory, documenting Scope 3 category by category and quantifying the savings of each reduction initiative.

FAQ

CDP frequently asked questions

What exactly is CDP?

CDP is a global environmental disclosure system covering climate, water and forests. More and more buyers and investors ask for the CDP questionnaire to assess their suppliers and the companies they invest in. The response receives a public score from D- to A.

What is the CDP Supply Chain questionnaire and who must respond?

It is the request large buyers send to their suppliers through the CDP portal. It covers climate (energy, emissions, targets), water security and forests. If a customer sends it to you, you answer in the CDP portal within the same annual cycle as every other company.

What sections does the CDP questionnaire cover?

Since 2024 it is a single modular questionnaire: introduction, the risk identification process (DIRO), risks and opportunities, governance, strategy, then the environmental themes: climate (module 7), forests (8), water (9), plastics (10) and biodiversity (11), with sign-off in module 13. Only the modules that apply to your company are activated.

What data do I need for the climate module?

Energy use by fuel type and facility, Scope 1 and 2 emissions in tonnes of CO2e, the relevant Scope 3 categories, the base year and the comparison with the previous year, verification status, your reduction targets and the initiatives with their estimated savings. In the demo we review what you have and what is missing.

What if my energy invoices are a mess?

That is the most common blocker. You upload invoices as they arrive from each supplier and Leia extracts the period, quantity and amount, with the confidence of each field. The PDF stays linked to the figure, and the Control tab shows you which facility and which month are missing.

Can CDP data also feed the CSRD and EcoVadis?

Yes. The emissions inventory and energy data you prepare for CDP are the same ones the CSRD (ESRS E1) and EcoVadis ask for. Once they are in Dcycle you do not collect them again for each framework.

What is the CDP submission deadline?

In the 2026 cycle the questionnaire was published on 27 April, the portal opened the week of 15 June, the scoring deadline was the week of 14 September and the portal closes the week of 26 October. CDP publishes the dates of each new cycle; it pays to have your inventory closed before the portal opens.

How does Dcycle help collect CDP data?

Dcycle collects the documents of each facility (electricity, gas, fuel and water invoices), Leia reads them, and the carbon footprint project calculates Scope 1, 2 and 3 under the GHG Protocol, per facility and per group company. For the value chain you send the questionnaire to your suppliers from the platform.

Does Dcycle fill in the questionnaire in the CDP portal?

No. Answers are written and submitted in the CDP portal, and Dcycle has no questionnaire screen and no direct export to the portal. What Dcycle does is prepare and justify the data the answers rely on (inventory, comparison, evidence, suppliers), and our expert team reviews the response with you.

Can I use AI to prepare CDP with Dcycle?

Yes, on the data side. Leia, Dcycle’s AI, reads your invoices field by field and helps you inside the GHG report editor. The wording of each answer is yours, with support from our team.

I have never answered CDP. Is it very complicated?

By hand, yes. With Dcycle you start from the data you already have and our team guides you step by step, so you can respond even in your first year. A typical first-cycle goal is a C, built on a solid Scope 1 and 2 inventory.

How long does it take?

It depends on your data. The most time-consuming part is gathering and justifying the inventory; with your invoices in Dcycle you go from weeks of manual work to days, and next year’s inventory starts from the one you already have.

Does my data go to third parties?

No. We work with your data inside the platform, hosted in Europe. We are ISO 27001 certified and GDPR compliant.

Does it work for other frameworks?

Yes. The same calculation serves the CSRD, ISO 14064 and UK SECR, so you do not repeat the work every year.
